Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Between March 12 – 16, 2016, Central Florida hosted the Dubai USA Government 2016 mission to the United States. Orlando, Florida was the first stop on a tour of four American cities for the U.A.E. delegation interested in establishing trade and investment relationships with U.S. partners.

Supported by community partners, the Central Florida International Trade Office prepared an agenda showcasing opportunities for Central Florida in both regions. During “Doing Business with Dubai,” over 100 Central Floridians took the opportunity to hear about the growth and opportunities not only in investment in Dubai but also Florida export possibilities to the region. Representatives from Dubai FDI, Dubai South, and Tecom presented on future projects in and development of Dubai. The U.S. – U.A.E. Business Council spoke about the bilateral relationship. The Commercial Attache from the Consulate General to Dubai from the United States spoke about export opportunities to Dubai for Floridians.

Afterwards, the delegation heard about the growth of our region from Central Florida economic development organizations including Orange County Government, the Orlando Economic Development Commission, the City of Orlando, the Orlando International Airport, Port Canaveral, and GT USA. Discussions were held on how the two regions could partner in the future.

The delegation was able to see the economic development presentations come to life as they met with UCF’s Office of Research and Commercialization in Research Park, visited the National Center for Simulation, and toured Medical City with Tavistock Group.

The Dubai USA Government mission also had private meetings with Orange County Government Mayor Teresa Jacobs, Visit Orlando, and Orlando International Airport (OIA) as the region looks forward to more opportunities for both regions capitalizing on the new direct non-stop flight to Dubai from OIA.

The culmination of the mission was a networking dinner hosted by the Arab American Community Council at Epcot’s Morocco Pavilion. It was a perfect evening to end a productive visit to Central Florida.
